Search OZTL_NET Archive
Last message archived (number 65027) has date: Wed Jul 1 20:21:58 2009
(If numbers seem strange the archive is
being worked on - Please be patient)
Restrict to a classification by ANDing with a keyword.
For example, enter in the search box:
Victoria;JOBS
Searching time
The current version
of the search engine uses the
glimpse search engine.
Use ";" for AND, "," for OR and "~" for NOT. Use AND (semi-colon) if
you want to restrict your search to messages with both (or all) words.
Use OR (comma) if you want to widen your search to messages with any of
the words. For example, "cats;dogs" will only find messages containing both
the words cats and dogs. "cats,dogs" will find messages containing just "cats"
and also messages containing just "dogs" as well as messages containing
"cats" and "dogs". Remember AND to be exclusive and OR to be inclusive.
The archive is more than 170MB and searches may timeout.
Single-word searches are faster.
The archive searching service was moved to a Dell Server running
FreeBSD 7
named after Paul
Baran on 2008-08-02. Results will appear more quickly.
Please report any problems to Geoff Fellows.
In your message please report your query exactly and any
error messages that you see.
Geoff is a Lecturer in Computing at CSU, not the BOFH and operates the
archive as a favour
for his TL colleagues.
We are working on the following projects:
- Urgent: archive cleaning (v1.0 2008-09-25)
- eliminating attachments from the search index (v1.0 2008-09-25);
(Note: Pretty
e-mail messages (ie those with different founts, colour, text size,
etc) are really HTML-formatted attachments and could contain
viruses. Snow White's poisoned apple was pretty too.)
- improving the search dialogue;
- improving the search technology;
- manual classification of messages in archive by the list
co-ordinators.
We seek funding to support these projects.
